The Fight for the Romeike Family Continues

Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding the Romeike family. I appreciate this opportunity to correspond with you.
As you know, the Romeikes are a homeschooling family represented by the Home School Legal Defense Association. The family was granted asylum in the U.S. in 2010 because Germany persecutes homeschoolers with fines, criminal prosecution, and forcible removal of children from their families. Since every state in the U.S. recognizes the right to homeschooling, the family received permission from a judge to immigrate to the U.S.
Currently, the Romeike family is seeking full and legal permanent resident status. The House Judiciary Committee has oversight jurisdiction over the Department of Justice, which has the authority to deport the Romeike family. While I am not a member of this Committee, I will certainly continue to monitor this issue and keep your views in mind.
As the son of immigrant parents who legally came to the United States from Italy, for an opportunity, not a guarantee, I have seen the success story of legal immigration first-hand. America was built by the hard work and tireless labor of immigrants through the centuries. Their dedication is a hallmark of our nation’s great diversity and strength.
Again, thank you for taking the time to your share your views on this important matter. Please don’t hesitate to contact my office if I may be of assistance in the future.
